From Studio Walls to the World Stage: A Painter's Unconventional Journey
JF: The Art Maverick Who Dances with Danger
Forget the velvet ropes and hushed whispers of museums! JF scoffs at such pedestrian notions of art. His canvases are the heart-stopping peaks of mountains, the churning depths of the ocean, the very face of danger itself.
Is flinging yourself out of a plane with paint splattered across a canvas considered "crazy?" JF scoffs again. That,my friend, is audacious inspiration! Watercolor painting with the deafening roar of Iguazu Falls as your soundtrack?Merely a symphony for the soul! Where lesser artists timidly imitate nature, JF grabs the elements by the throat and forces them to co-create! He throws himself into the maelstrom, riding the paint like a bull tamer rides the beast! Who cares what "comes up?" When JF wrestles with nature, the result is guaranteed to be breathtaking pandemonium!
Once, performance art's center stage held him captive. Now, the entire world is his arena. He's painted underwater, brushing alongside Great White sharks, a waltz with death. He's transformed the Matterhorn's peak into his personal easel, leaving his mark on the very heavens. Yosemite's El Capitan became a vertical canvas, where he defied gravity with each stroke, wielding Elon Musk's flamethrowers like a fiery paintbrush at Burning Man. The Sea of Cortez held his submerged studio, where vibrant masterpieces bloomed beneath the waves. He's even channeled the raw energy of a Las Vegas Stratosphere base jump into an impulse painting mid-air!
JF, the Taurus infused with the raging spirit of Red Bull, is a living inferno. He doesn't create art; he conjures it from the heart of chaos! His next conquests? Taming the melting glaciers of the North Pole or perhaps etching his masterpiece onto the molten flow of Mount Etna! This is no mere artist; this is a visionary who redefines the boundaries of existence!
Nature is art. Art is nature. And JF, the fearless maestro, conducts this symphony of extremes in the shadow of the divine!
The hushed solitude of a dusty studio – that was supposed to be my life. Then, in a surreal 1976 encounter with Salvador Dali, cigarette smoke swirling around his pronouncements, everything shifted. His eccentric genius forced me to see the world anew, to question my own artistic path. Later, as fate would have it, scuba diving brought me face-to-face with another pioneer - Andre Laban, who swam alongside Jacques Cousteau and, more importantly, was the world's first underwater painter. It was a revelation. Here was art defying gravity, defying boundaries.
The four walls of a studio suddenly felt suffocating. The world, vast and vibrant, became my canvas. I wouldn't just paint on flat surfaces – the world itself would be my medium. From the electrifying presence of Great White sharks to the humbling majesty of mountain peaks, I'd capture them all live, a performance infused with the raw energy of the moment.
Art, for me, transcended mere representation. It had to be a visceral experience, a symphony of creation and recreation. I craved the challenge, the audacity to push the boundaries of artistic expression. And so, I took my art to the grandest stage imaginable – Las Vegas showrooms, international events, the very face of the Earth. Unique locations became backdrops for my unconventional canvases.
This wasn't just about replicating an image – it was about breathing life into the act of creation itself. Each piece was a performance, a story told not just through color and form, but through the very act of creation in unexpected places. This was my rebellion against artistic convention, a testament to the power of a boundless imagination.

Painting Paris Olympics
Jean Francois? Judo whiz at 6, black belt by 16. Extreme sports practically invented themselves around him - base jumping, paragliding, the whole shebang. By his 20s, he'd rock climbed cliffs, dive with sharks, and even SAILED THE WORLD SOLO. Art? Had to keep up with that kind of crazy, of course!
Ushuaia
Life absolutely is a journey, and it sounds like you're at a point where you're ready to embark on an exciting new chapter! Here are some key takeaways from your story:

Great whites
They scoff at the timid, those who whisper about newfound confidence. Confidence blooms from mastery, they sneer. And mastery, well that comes from staring down your fears and conquering them, not tiptoeing around them.
For me, the ocean held a dual lure. The whispering call of the deep, a siren song since childhood, and the undeniable pull of creation, a painter's soul blooming on the canvas. So, I weaved these passions together, a symphony of risk and reward. My studio? A steel cage plunged into the inky abyss, a canvas surrounded by the prehistoric ballet of great white sharks. From Guadalupe island on the coast of Baja Mexico to South Africa, the Great Barrier Reef my witness, I painted these leviathans in their natural domain.
The fear, though? It gnawed at me. A single sighting, a flash of fin off the Oregon coast, had sent shivers down my spine. But that was the beauty of the journey, wasn't it? The destination wasn't just a location, it was a conquering. So, I returned to Oregon, the very place that had tested my resolve. This time, however, the cage remained on the shore. Just me, my paints, and the troubled water teeming with the apex predators.
Your summits
Forget summits, forget the tired trope of conquering mountains. We climbers aren't flag-planting egomaniacs, battling each other for bragging rights. We have a more intimate dance with the rock face, a personal odyssey that began years ago for me, growing up in the shadow of a legend the French Alpes- now in my new backyard the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area in Las Vegas.
Those walls, those routes, cradled by the Mojave sun, became an obsession. El Capitan in Yosemite, the ultimate test, loomed large. But the ascent wasn't just about the peak, it was about the canvas. There's a certain audacity, a defiance of gravity, in wielding a brush halfway up a sheer rock face. El Capitan became my Everest, not of conquest, but of artistic expression. Sure, I didn't "summit" K2, that day, but I found my perfect perch, my ideal vantage point to capture the soul of that killer mountain.
It's not about the top, folks. It's about defining your own summit, pushing your own limits, and finding the perfect place to plant your flag - be it a metaphorical summit or a literal brushstroke on the side of a cliff. We climbers aren't competing, we're co-creating a personal odyssey with the rock face as our partner. So, forget the competition, find your own damn summit, and paint your masterpiece on the way up.
